Meeting Description:
The conference brings together LSP practitioners who teach foreign
language courses across a wide range of scientific disciplines at
universities both locally and internationally. It provides an
excellent opportunity for participants to share their research
findings, discuss insights from their teaching practice, and reaffirm
their strong commitment to the LSP profession.
The oral presentations, workshops, and poster sessions will address
key issues in the theoretical and methodological aspects of LSP. These
include general aspects of LSP, terminological challenges, teaching
methodology, syllabus design, learning materials, assessment and
evaluation in LSP, English as a lingua franca, the professional
development of LSP teachers, and the socio-cultural context of LSP.
Registration and conference fees:
Early bird: 1 November 2024 – 31 December 2024
Conference fee: 150 €
Standard registration: 1 January 2025 – 1 February 2025
Conference fee: 180 €
The conference fee includes a conference kit, a certificate of
attendance, coffee breaks, conference dinner on the first conference
day, lunch on the second conference day and a guided tour of Split.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
1. Ana Bocanegra-Valle, Associate Professor, University of Cádiz,
Spain
Ana Bocanegra-Valle is Associate Professor at the University of Cádiz
(Spain) where she teaches Maritime English at graduate and
postgraduate levels. Her main research interests include Maritime
English, ESP/EAP pedagogy and discourse, and English for research
publication purposes. She has been the Editor-in-chief of the LSP
journal Ibérica, Head of the U of Cádiz Press, and is at present Book
Review Editor for ESP Today, and Spanish Journal of Applied
Linguistics. She is currently involved in a national R&D+i project,
and her book Ethnographies of Academic Writing. Theory, Methods, and
Interpretation (co-edited, John Benjamins, 2021) received an
international research award in 2023.
2. Heath Rose, Professor of Applied Linguistics, University of Oxford,
UK
Heath Rose is Professor of Applied Linguistics at the Department of
Education, University of Oxford. He is the coordinator of the English
Medium Instruction Research Group and runs the wider EMI Oxford
Research Network. Heath’s research interests are situated within the
field of language teaching and language learning. His research
interest is EMI outcomes, particularly exploring the effects of
English support in EMI, and the language needs of students learning in
EMI settings. He has published books on Global Englishes, research
methods, and data collection. He is series co-editor of Cambridge
Elements in Language Teaching.
3. Brian Willems, Associate Professor, University of Split, Croatia
Brian Willems is associate professor of literature at the Department
of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences, University of Split (FFST), where he is also director of the
Studia Mediterranea center. He is the author of six academic books,
most recently Anger and Change in Korean American Literature
(forthcoming 2025). He is co-editor, with Slavoj Žižek and Nicol
Barria-Asenjo, of Global Manifestos for the 21st Century (2024), with
Aleksandar Mijatović of Reconsidering (Post-)Yugoslav Time (2022), and
of two anthologies for his department. He is on the editorial boards
of The Journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in
Split (Scopus), Cross-Cultural Studies Review, LOOK Editions (of the
FFST and Multimedia Cultural Center Split), and Disobedience Press (of
the University of Michigan Press).
Plenary talks will be given in English.
