A doctoral student has a fixed-term employment according to Chapter 5
of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), and only a person who
will be or has already been admitted to a third-cycle programme may be
appointed. The employment period may not be longer than corresponding
to a full-time doctoral education of four years. Doctoral students
should primarily devote themselves to their own education, but may
engage in teaching, research and administration to a maximum of 20 %
of a full time employement.

A new employment as a doctoral student can only be one year. It can
then be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
