Position Overview
The Department of Linguistics at Ohio State University seeks to hire a
tenure-track Assistant Professor with a specialization in Phonetics.
The start date for the position is August 15, 2025. The ideal
candidate will focus on amassing and using primary data to advance
phonetic theory and cutting-edge research. Candidates with research
involving innovative methods, fieldwork, language acquisition, and/or
other areas which complement existing strengths in the Department are
especially encouraged to apply.
Performance Objectives
This hire is expected to develop and maintain an impactful and
productive research program, advise graduate and undergraduate
students, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and engage in
service to the Department and the field. The ideal candidate will also
apply for external research funding, participate in department
outreach activities, and establish productive relationships with
existing research areas in the Department and across the University.
We seek candidates who, in addition to building their independent
research program, will have a strong commitment to excellence in
teaching and mentoring a diverse body of students at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics or a
related field by August 15, 2025. ABDs are welcome to apply.
Desired: Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building a
diverse intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see
below).

proceeding, or dissertation chapter).
