Assistant Professor - (2401050)
Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies
The appointee will participate in teaching, research, knowledge
transfer and community service. He/she is required to be actively
involved in research that leads to successful grant proposals and
publications in recognized refereed journals. He/she will also
develop, evaluate and teach in programmes at both undergraduate and
postgraduate levels; provide guidance to students in the capacity of
academic adviser; supervise students on teaching practice and
contribute to departmental and faculty activities and management.
Applicants should hold a doctoral degree in linguistics / applied
linguistics. Teaching and research expertise in major disciplines
within linguistics is welcome (e.g. second language acquisition,
phonetics, psycholinguistics, corpus linguistics). The capability to
teach translation courses will be considered as an advantage.
Candidates should provide evidence of scholarship, research, and
publications in the relevant fields mentioned. Preference will be
given to candidates with proven ability to secure competitive research
grants.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract. Fringe
benefits include the University’s Voluntary Contributions to MPF
Scheme or a contract-end lump sum payment (totaling up to 15% of the
basic salary), leave, medical and dental benefits, and, where
applicable, housing benefits.
