The Department of Linguistics at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track
assistant-professor position in Linguistics beginning July 1, 2025.

Area of specialization:  Language acquisition with expertise in
computational modelling

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate has a strong research program in
child or adult language acquisition that is grounded in linguistic
theory and makes use of computational methods.  We welcome
applications from candidates whose work aligns with our department
mission as outlined on our website.  Requirements include a PhD in
Linguistics or a closely related field, and evidence of teaching and
research excellence. Current PhD candidates will be considered, but
the PhD must be obtained by July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities:  The new colleague will be expected to:

*  maintain an active program of research and publication.

*  teach undergraduate and graduate courses, primarily but not
exclusively in language acquisition and in computational methods,
including both existing courses and new ones that expand the
Department's range of offerings.  The teaching load is two courses per
semester.

*  advise students at all levels.

*  provide service (administration, governance, etc.) at the
departmental and University levels.

*  participate in professional activities in the relevant field

About the department:  The Linguistics Department is a free-standing
independent unit within the College of Arts and Sciences.  It offers
an undergraduate BA and graduate MA degree in Linguistics, a dual
BA-MA in Linguistics, and a graduate Certificate in Computational
Linguistics.  In partnership with the Department of Romance Studies,
the Linguistics Department also offers an MA-PhD dual degree in
Hispanic Linguistics.  UNC-Chapel Hill is classified as a Research 1
institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher
Education.

Required application materials:  Cover letter, research statement,
teaching statement, two writing samples, and a CV, plus at least four
letters of recommendation.

November 1, 2024, 11:59 p.m. U.S. Easter Time.  We anticipate
conducting Zoom interviews in December and holding campus visits in
January
