We invite submissions to a workshop on experimental research
investigating semantic and pragmatic meaning to be held at the ZAS in
Berlin (17th-19th July 2025). The workshop is connected to the Emmy
Noether project on ‘Scales in language processing and acquisition:
Semantic and pragmatic contributions to implicature computation’
awarded to Nicole Gotzner
(https://sites.google.com/view/nicolegotzner/emmy-noether-project).
Topics of particular relevance to the workshop include theory-guided
experimental work on degrees, scales, adjective meaning, alternatives,
subjectivity, pragmatic inferences and social meaning. Submissions
should relate to one or more of the following research questions:
How should we model the Semantics/Pragmatics Interface?
How can we distinguish semantic from pragmatic content?
What role does semantic content play in pragmatic inferencing?
How do children acquire semantic and pragmatic meaning?
What mechanisms underly the computation of pragmatic inferences?
What is the relevance of scalar diversity?
How is social and pragmatic meaning linked?
How is valence and other emotional content represented?
