Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Rice University in Houston, Texas is
seeking applications for an assistant professor to begin July 1, 2025.
The candidate should have research expertise in the areas of language
and gender, language and ethnicity, sociolinguistics, and discourse
analysis. Major factors for consideration will be a demonstrated
excellence in teaching, as well as demonstrated active participation
in research activities in the desired areas.  Once hired, the scholar
will maintain an active research agenda in the fields described above,
and will teach three undergraduate courses at both the introductory
and advanced Linguistics levels per year.   The candidate may also
expect to engage in collaborations with other disciplines in the
social sciences.  Affiliation with one or more of Rice’s several
interdepartmental programs is expected, though not required. Such
programs include the Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and
Sexuality; the program on Poverty, Social Justice and Human
Capabilities; Politics, Law and Social Thought; the Baker Institute
for Public Policy; and/or Science and Technology Studies. For further

qualifications, C.V., an article-length writing sample, and statements

progresses. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in
Linguistics by June 30, 2025.

members of our diverse student population. The start date of the
position is July 1, 2025.
