The Chilean Society of Linguistics, SOCHIL, and the Institute of
Literature and Language Sciences of the Pontifical Catholic University
of Valparaíso, have the pleasure of inviting academics, undergraduate
and graduate students and researchers in language sciences to
participate in the XXIV International Congress of the Chilean Society
of Linguistics: Diachronies and synchronicities: Tradition and
innovation in language studies, which will take place on October 28,
29 and 30, 2025, at the Sausalito Campus (Viña del Mar) of the
Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso.

PARTICIPATION IN THE CONGRESS
Participation in SOCHIL 2025 can be done in three ways: oral
presentations, coordinated thematic panels, and posters. Proposals
will be received around, but not restricted to, the following thematic
areas:
● History and evolution of language: historical linguistics, history
of Spanish
● Structure of languages: phonology, morphology, lexicon, and syntax
● Studies of usage: phonetics, semantics, pragmatics, and
sociolinguistics
● Theoretical linguistics: linguistic epistemology and philosophy of
language
● Language processing: psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics
● Automatic language processing: computational and corpus linguistics
● The language life cycle: acquisition, development, and
deterioration
● Applied linguistics: clinical, educational, and forensic
● Amerindian languages: documentation, revitalization, and
reclamation
● Language and identity: feminisms, diversity, and resistance
● Discourse as social action: discourse studies, critical studies,
and glottopolitics
● Media: political discourse, transmedia, and linguistics Media
● Translation and interpreting: cognitive, sociocultural, linguistic
mediation, and intercultural mediation studies
● Second languages: social and individual variables, use, learning,
and teaching
Modalities
● Oral presentations: individual or group presentations, of a maximum
of 20 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for audience questions.
● Coordinated thematic panels: a set of 4 thematically related oral
presentations coordinated by research groups, with an additional 15
minutes for audience questions.
● Posters: graphic presentations, individual or group, aimed at
communicating innovative methodological developments (analysis tools,
experimental designs, application of analysis models, technological
products, among others). A special session will be designated for
their presentation. Posters will be in vertical format, A0 size (841
mm x 1189 mm).
Instructions for preparing and submitting abstracts:
● Languages: Spanish, English, or languages native to Chile (1).
● Content:
○ Title of the presentation, panel discussion, or poster.
○ Abstract, of a maximum of 300 words, including objectives,
methodology, preliminary or expected results, and relevance of the
study.
○ 5 keywords.
○ Author information: full name, institutional affiliation, email
address.
○ Presentation mode: oral presentation, poster, or coordinated
panel discussion.
○ Thematic area in which the research is included.
○ In the case of coordinated panels, the panel summary must be
submitted and the abstracts of the presentations must be attached.
● Submission Deadline: Abstracts must be submitted no later than May
30, 2025.
● Submission Address: Submissions will only be accepted via the form
https://forms.gle/Bazhd6vQmA1rhvPg9 (available on the conference
website).
(1) If submitting an abstract in a language of an indigenous Chilean
people, a translation into Spanish or English must be included. This
procedure will be repeated for the presentation or poster.
Proposal Evaluation
The abstracts of the proposals will be evaluated by the conference
Scientific Committee based on their quality, originality, and thematic
relevance. In the case of thematic panels, both the panel presentation
and the abstracts of each presentation will be evaluated.
The results will be communicated to the applicants between June 30 and
July 15, 2025, via email.

The conference will feature four keynote speakers, who specialize in
different areas of research and have distinguished international
professional and academic careers.

PARTICIPACIÓN EN EL CONGRESO
La participación en SOCHIL 2025 podrá realizarse en tres modalidades:
ponencias orales, mesas temáticas coordinadas y pósters. Se recibirán
propuestas en torno, pero no restringidas, a las siguientes áreas
temáticas:
● Historia y evolución de la lengua: lingüística histórica, historia
del español
● Estructura de las lenguas: fonología, morfología, léxico y sintaxis
● Estudios del uso: fonética, semántica, pragmática y
sociolingüística
● Lingüística teórica: epistemología lingüística y filosofía del
lenguaje
● Procesamiento del lenguaje: psicolingüística y neurolingüística
● Procesamiento automático del lenguaje: lingüística computacional y
de corpus
● Ciclo vital del lenguaje: adquisición, desarrollo y deterioro
● Lingüística aplicada: clínica, educativa y forense
● Lenguas amerindias: documentación, revitalización y reivindicación
● Lenguaje e identidad: feminismos, diversidades y resistencias
● Discurso como acción social: estudios del discurso, estudios
críticos y glotopolítica
● Medios de comunicación: discurso político, transmedia y estudios
mediales
● Traducción e interpretación: estudios cognitivos, socioculturales,
de mediación lingüística y mediación intercultural
● Segundas lenguas: variables sociales e individuales, uso,
aprendizaje y enseñanza
Modalidades
● Ponencias orales: presentaciones individuales o grupales, de un
máximo de 20 minutos, con 5 minutos adicionales para preguntas de la
audiencia.
● Mesas temáticas coordinadas: conjunto de 4 ponencias orales,
relacionadas temáticamente y coordinadas por grupos de investigación,
con 15
minutos adicionales para preguntas de la audiencia.
● Pósteres: presentaciones gráficas, individuales o grupales,
orientadas a la comunicación de desarrollos metodológicos innovadores
(herramientas de análisis, diseños experimentales, aplicación de
modelos de análisis, productos tecnológicos, entre otros). Se
destinará una sesión especial para la presentación de ellos. Tendrán
formato vertical, de tamaño A0 (841 mm x 1189 mm).
Instrucciones para la elaboración y envío de resúmenes
● Idiomas: español, inglés o lenguas originarias de Chile1.
● Contenido:
○ Título de la ponencia, mesa temática o póster.
○ Resumen, de un máximo de 300 palabras, que incluya objetivos,
metodología, resultados preliminares o esperados y relevancia del
estudio.
○ 5 palabras claves.
○ Datos de las/os autoras/es: nombre completo, filiación
institucional, correo electrónico.
○ Modalidad de presentación: ponencia oral, póster o mesa
coordinada.
○ Área temática en la cual se inscribe la investigación.
○ En el caso de las mesas coordinadas se deberá presentar el
resumen de la mesa y adjuntar los resúmenes de las ponencias.
● Plazo de envío: Los resúmenes deberán enviarse a más tardar el 30
de mayo de 2025.
● Dirección de envío: los envíos serán recepcionados solo a través
del formulario https://forms.gle/Bazhd6vQmA1rhvPg9 (disponible en la
página web del congreso).
Evaluación de propuestas
Los resúmenes de las propuestas serán evaluados por el Comité
Científico del congreso en función de su calidad, originalidad y
pertinencia temática. En el caso de las mesas temáticas, se evaluarán
tanto la presentación de la mesa como los resúmenes de cada ponencia.
Los resultados serán comunicados a los postulantes, entre el 30 de
junio y 15 de julio de 2025 a través de correo electrónico.

El congreso contará con la participación de cuatro conferencistas
principales, quienes se especializan en diferentes áreas de
investigación y que cuentan con destacadas trayectorias profesionales
y académicas internacionales.
