Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics
Submission Deadline: 15-Aug-2025
We are pleased to invite talk proposals for Arizona Linguistics Circle
18 (ALC 18). ALC 18 is an annual graduate student-run conference held
at the University of Arizona. Our goal is to foster a deeper
appreciation for linguistics while providing a healthy environment for
academic discussion, especially as it concerns graduate student
research. However, we happily invite submissions from scholars at all
points in their careers, including undergraduate.
The theme of this year’s conference is Language at Work. We take this
to mean linguistics which span more than theoretical implications. We
are especially hoping to see submissions from linguistic applications
in Indigenous language revitalization, government and law, social and
civil contexts, and technology. However, abstracts from all areas of
linguistics are welcome and encouraged.
This year, we plan to conduct an in-person conference. We may be open
to select presentations online, but this will not be an online
conference.
Submission Instructions:
Abstract may not exceed 500 words (not including keywords, references,
figures, and tableaux). Please keep in mind that this is a general
conference and thus those who are reading your abstracts may not be
well-versed in your area of expertise. Define your terms.
Presentations will consist of 20-minute talks with 10-minute Q&A
Poster session will be at least one hour long. Posters will be a
standard 36” by 48” size. We will share recommendations for local
poster printing if you are traveling.
Authors are limited to one individual and one joint abstract
Only anonymized submissions will be accepted
Submissions Open: July 17, 2025 - Aug. 15, 2025
