Description:
The Institute of Linguistics, Department of Modern Languages, at
Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is offering a position in
collaboration with the Department for German Studies at Göttingen
University in the project “Lexical(ized) demonstrations in spoken and
sign languages” as a
Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d)
(E 13 TV-G-U, 65% part-time)
on a fixed term contract for 3 years . The salary grade is based on
the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to
Goethe University (TV-G-U).
The position will involve:
- working within the DFG funded project “Lexical(ized) demonstrations
in spoken and sign languages“. The project is part of the second phase
of the DFG Priority Programme 2392 „Visual communication (ViCom)“
(vicom.info).
- collecting new data and creating an open-access database on
ideophones and lexicalised demonstrations in German and Akan
- developing and implementing experimental studies on on ideophones
and lexicalised demonstrations in German and Akan
- alongside other members of the project, developing a new,
multimodal, formal semantic theory of lexicalised demonstrations in
spoken and signed languages
- alongside other members of the project, developing grammatical
descriptions of and teaching materials related to lexicalised
demonstrations in spoken and signed languages

Your profile:
- a completed Masters degree in linguistics or a comparable field, as
well as thematically relevant, above-average Master’s thesis
- familiarity with participatory research, empirical and theoretical
linguistics, as well as corpus and experimental linguistics is
advantageous.
The position is intended to serve the qualification of young
scientists and offers the opportunity to pursue a doctorate.
The above project consists of two closely collaborating sub-projects
on spoken and sign languages, with one open position at the University
of Göttingen (Sign Languages, PI Prof. Dr. Markus Steinbach) and one
open position at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main (Spoken
Languages, PI Dr. Kathryn Barnes). Applicants interested in both
