Bi-SLI 2026 is the 6th international conference dedicated to research
on language acquisition in bi/multilingual children with Developmental
Language Disorder (DLD), in comparison with typically developing
peers. The conference will be held at the University Campus Borongaj
in Zagreb, Croatia, on April 23–24, 2026.
The Bi-SLI conferences bring together researchers and clinicians
working on the linguistic and cognitive mechanisms that shape language
development in bi/multilingual contexts, with particular emphasis on
populations at risk of or diagnosed with DLD. Information on previous
Bi-SLI meetings is available at
https://www.bi-sli.org/bi-sli-conferences.
A central focus of the Bi-SLI community is the development and
validation of the LITMUS (Language Impairment Testing in Multilingual
Settings) tools, created within the COST Action IS0804 Language
Impairment in Multilingual Society. The LITMUS instruments support the
assessment and identification of DLD in bi/multilingual children and
continue to be used widely in research and clinical practice.
Alongside work employing LITMUS tools, the conference welcomes
contributions on a broad range of topics related to bilingualism,
multilingualism and language impairment.
For Bi-SLI 2026, we invite submissions for oral and poster
presentations addressing, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Linguistic and non-linguistic profiles of bi/multilingual children
with DLD
- Identification and diagnostic decision-making in bi/multilingual
contexts
- Assessment of DLD in bi/multilingual settings, including studies
using LITMUS tools
- Intervention approaches for bi/multilingual children with DLD
- Language development in bi/multilingual children with other
developmental disorders
Abstract submission is open until January 6, 2026, with notifications
of acceptance on February 15, 2026. Abstracts (maximum 300 words)
should be submitted via the online form on the conference webpage.
Presentations may be either oral or poster.
