Dear Linguist Listers,
Linguist List turns 36 years old this month! Our first issue was
posted in December, 1990:
https://linguistlist.org/issues/1/0/
We've come a long way since these humble beginnings. From a few dozen
linguists on a new electronic mailing list -- to over 125,000
subscribers and followers worldwide!
But with age, inevitably comes change…
Linguist List's creators and its first moderators retired long ago.
But before they did, they formed the eLinguistics Foundation (ELF).
ELF is the not-for-profit organization that owns Linguist List and its
intellectual property. It ensures that LL remains independent of any
private corporation or institution, so that our mission can remain
steadfast: to support the discipline of linguistics by bringing you
information about jobs, journals, conferences, books, and more.
However, to do so, we must raise money to keep our daily operations
going and our services free to all users.
Therefore, please help us celebrate LINGUIST’s 36th birthday by making
a donation.
In lieu of an expensive-to-operate Fund Drive, we have put a donation
banner on the LL homepage that will remain while we suspend posting
over the holidays and New Year:
https://linguistlist.org
Every donation helps keep LL free and open to everyone, so please
consider donating if you can. Less than 1% of LL subscribers give, so
your donation counts very much!
Please note that the LL staff will be taking its annual holiday break
until Monday, January 5, 2026. During this time, there will be no new
postings.
We will resume normal operations on Monday, January 5, 2026.
To submit an emergency message during this time, please email us at
linguist at linguistlist.org and cc editors at linguistlist.org.
Thank you for your continued support of the LINGUIST List. Without it,
we would have to cease operations.
Our warmest regards,
- The LINGUIST List Team
