Description:
The Linguistics Program at the College of Staten Island of The City
University of New York (CUNY) invites applicants for an anticipated
tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the
English Department, beginning August 2025.
A Ph.D. in Linguistics is required by the time of appointment.
Preference will be given to candidates who specialize in one of the
following three sub-areas of linguistics: (a) syntax and syntactic
variation in Romance; (b) phonetics and/or speech science; or (c)
computational linguistics, with a focus on computational models
relevant to theoretical approaches to human language. The successful
candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in one of these
three areas and also undergraduate courses in general linguistics,
including but not limited to: Introduction to Language, Introduction
to Linguistics, Linguistic Diversity, Language Variation.
Applicants for the position will need to demonstrate a record of (or
evidence for the promise of) scholarly productivity that will advance
the program’s research profile. Expectations for the position include:
applying for extramural funding; teaching general linguistics courses
in the undergraduate Linguistics Program; mentoring undergraduate
students; developing undergraduate and/or MA-level courses in the area
of specialization; participating actively in the life of the College;
performing departmental and college service.
