Call for Papers:
(No. 38, to be published in November 2025)
Linguistic landscape (LL) studies have developed in the last two
decades as a strategy for investigating the use of languages in the
public environment. The social context, and the affective and
identity-based character that languages can play in society (Landry &
Bourhis 1997), have offered new perspectives in sociolinguistic and
pedagogical studies: firstly, by the analysis of multilingualism in
urban environments, and secondly through the didactic applications of
real samples of languages in language teaching (Calvi 2018, Moustaoui
2019).
This thematic issue on LL aims to relate these studies to the cultural
character of populations. Through the subject ‘Linguistic Landscape :
Tourism and Cultural Identity’ we want to analyse the impact that
tourism has on the linguistic landscape, especially in these times of
broad social debate on the impact of mass tourism, and how it
conditions or modifies the cultural identity of a city, a region or a
country.
