The Department of Languages and Literature at the University of
Nicosia is pleased to host a guest lecture titled 'Responsible AI
Applied to Multilingual Technologies' by Dr Helena Moniz from the
University of Lisbon, as part of the MA in TESOL Webinar Series.
This online event will take place via WebEx on Thursday, 27th of March

This talk will cover distinct Multilingual Technologies with speech
and text modalities and the application of Responsible AI principles.
The talk will encompass several challenges, opportunities and new ways
of working of linguists/translators in an era of AI. It will finalize
with examples of research projects conducted in the scope of
Responsible AI between academia and industry/organizations.
Helena Moniz is the President of the European Association for Machine
Translation (2021-) and President of the International Association for
Machine Translation (2023-). She is a Visiting Research Fellow at the
UNESCO Chair in Translating Cultures (2025-). Helena is an Assistant
Professor at the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of
Lisbon, where she teaches Computational Linguistics, Computer Assisted
Translation, and Machine Translation Systems and Post-editing. She is
the Chair of the Ethics Committee of the Center for Responsible AI
(2023-) (https://centerforresponsible.ai), and the coordinator of the
