In an increasingly interconnected world, English-medium instruction
(EMI) and Other Languages as a Medium of Instruction (OLMI) have
emerged as key strategies for facilitating international communication
and collaboration. However, their implementation often raises
questions about linguistic diversity and inclusiveness, presenting
both challenges and opportunities for educators, policymakers, and
society at large.
The 8th ICLHE Conference will focus on the complexities of EMI/OLMI,
welcoming contributions incorporating other languages to enrich
discussions regarding ensuring equitable participation in HE. By
bringing educators, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders
together, we seek to promote meaningful conversations and
collaborations that go beyond linguistic/content boundaries. Through
keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, we
hope to take stock of current approaches and innovations in EMI/OLMI
while also sharing practices that support greater inclusivity in HE.
The vision for the 2025 Conference is to contribute to the development
of a more inclusive and dynamic HE system. We aim to explore how
EMI/OLMI can be utilized as a tool to foster linguistic inclusion
rather than exclusion. By presenting case studies, research findings,
and policy considerations, we hope to deepen our understanding of how
language shapes educational experiences.
Ultimately, our goal is to advance the dialogue on linguistic
integration in HE, where language is not a barrier but a bridge to
equal opportunities. We encourage participants to actively engage,
share their research, and collaborate on strategies that position
language as a unifying force, enhancing the educational experience for
all.
