Description:
The AHRC-DFG-funded QuBiSM project (Questions, Bias, Multimodality:
Negotiating Meaning in Interaction) invites applications for a
full-time postdoctoral researcher position. The project, headed by PIs
Dr Johannes Heim (Aberdeen), Prof. Dr. Sophie Repp (Cologne) and Dr
Rebecca Woods (Newcastle), will examine the prosody and co-speech
gesture associated with negative questions in English and German, as
well as their acquisition.
The position will involve the following tasks:
 - Corpus analysis of prosody and gesture of negative questions in
speech corpora
 - Experimental research
  -- Judgements of negative questions (written and audio) by English
and German adults (online surveys)
  -- multimodal production of negative questions by English adults
(video)
 - Statistical analysis and theoretical evaluation of the findings
 - Publication of the results in peer-reviewed journals
 - Travel (conferences, 6 monthly team meetings in person)
The position in Aberdeen requires the following profile:
 - PhD in linguistics, psychology or related subject
 - English language skills at (near) native level
 - Essential: experience in phonetics/laboratory phonology research,
German language skills to CEFR B1 or B2
 - Desirable: experience in gesture research and/or pragmatics, German
language skills to (near) native level.
The successful candidate will have to relocate to Aberdeen. The
duration of the position is 24 months, starting no later than 1st
August 2025. The employment is full-time.
