Description:

The Department of English and American Studies at Friedrich Schiller
University Jena (Germany) is seeking to fill a part-time position (50%
/ 20 hours per week) as a Research Associate in English Linguistics,
starting October 1, 2025. The position is initially limited to a
three-year term.
Your responsibilities:
 * Completion of a doctoral dissertation in the field of English
linguistics
 * Independent teaching of linguistics courses in the programs offered
by the department (BA, MA, State Examination)
 * Support in research and teaching activities, including preparation
and organization of workshops and conferences, as well as assistance
with third-party funding applications
 * Participation in administrative duties, such as academic advising
for students, supervision and grading of exams, and involvement in the
department’s internal MA admissions committee
Your profile:
 * You hold a university degree in English studies or linguistics
 * You have a strong interest in cross-linguistic approaches (e.g.,
linguistic typology, contrastive linguistics)
 * You are familiar with methodological issues in corpus linguistics
or are keen to engage with them
 * You have experience working on corpus-linguistic projects
 * Programming skills (e.g., in Python or R) are an asset
The salary is in accordance with the provisions of the Collective
Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-L),
depending on qualifications, up to salary group 13, including an
annual special payment as stipulated in the agreement.
