Description:
The Romanian Cultural Institute has opened registrations for the
Summer School in Brașov – Courses in Romanian Language, Culture, and
Civilization, which will take place between June 30 – July 13, 2025.
Now in its 28th edition, this program is aimed at those who wish to
explore Romania's cultural richness, students from Romance language
departments abroad, researchers interested in Romanian cultural
studies, and anyone attracted to the Romanian language as a foreign
language. Romanian language courses are tailored for all levels, from
beginner to advanced, and the teaching methods include interactive
lessons, audio-video materials, and authentic texts from various
sources. More than just a series of courses and lectures, participants
from previous editions describe the experience as "a life experience."
To register, applicants must submit by June 9, 2025, to the address
scoaladevara at icr.ro the registration form (download the registration
form at the bottom of the page), curriculum vitae, a full set of
scanned documents - a photocopy of the passport/identity card and
proof of payment of the fee. The participation fee is 500 euros per
person and includes all courses and activities in the program, as well
as two festive dinners (a welcome dinner and an international evening)
and coffee breaks. A 15% discount is offered to alumni, i.e., former
participants. The fee does not cover accommodation, meals (other than
the two festive dinners), international or domestic transport, visa,
or medical assistance. Organizers recommend all participants have
valid medical insurance for the duration of their stay in Romania. To
participate, one must be at least 18 years old, regularly attend at
least 75% of the intensive courses, actively participate in
conferences and two creative workshops, as well as in the cultural
documentation program.
The Romanian Cultural Institute also offers six full scholarships,
which cover the participation fee, accommodation, and lunch on the
university campus. These scholarships are intended for foreign
students from Romance language departments, researchers in Romanian
cultural studies, and Romania’s “cultural ambassadors.” Candidates can
apply by submitting the registration form (download the registration
form at the bottom of the page), motivation letter and a
recommendation by the registration deadline, and the results will be
announced on June 13, 2025.
The Summer School in Brașov includes 40 hours of intensive Romanian
language courses for foreigners. At the end, participants will take a
written and oral exam, which may lead to obtaining a language
proficiency certificate issued by the Faculty of Letters of
Transilvania University of Brașov, as well as a language level
evaluation diploma offered by the Romanian Cultural Institute. For
those who do not take or do not pass the exam, a certificate of
participation will be issued. Additionally, Transilvania University
offers 3 ECTS transferable credits.
Besides courses, the program includes a wide range of cultural and
educational activities meant to enrich participants' experiences:
creative workshops in ceramics, journalism and advertising, folk
dances, thematic conferences, and cultural documentation trips.
Throughout the Summer School, participants will have the opportunity
to share traditions, customs, music, and gastronomy, building social
and cultural connections among people from different corners of the
world. The Summer School places particular emphasis on international
networking, and gastronomic experiences are perfect opportunities for
cultural exchange.
The program includes lectures given by renowned specialists, including
historian Eugen Stancu and film critic Adina Brădeanu, who will
address topics in history, literature, cinema, and Romanian
traditions, in Romanian and English. The creative workshops take place
in significant cultural venues in Brașov, such as the "Casa
Mureșenilor" Museum and the Reduta Cultural Center. Organized trips
are an essential part of the program, each representing a living
lesson in history and culture. Participants will explore the city of
Brașov, Râșnov Fortress, and the village of Cobor, discovering natural
landscapes and traditions preserved for centuries.
Additional Information:
The participation fee can be paid by bank transfer in RON, EUR, or
USD, and all details will be provided upon registration. The
participant’s name and the mention “Brașov” must be included in all
payment documents.
The Romanian Cultural Institute reserves the right to make changes to
the program in case of unforeseen circumstances, and for any
additional information, interested individuals may contact the
International Relations Direction – EUNIC and Multilingualism
Department, at the email address scoaladevara at icr.ro or by phone at
