Job Title: 1 Year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Experimental
Sociolinguistics
Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Psycholinguistics; Sociolinguistics

Specialty Language(s): English (eng)
                       French (fra)

Description:
We are soliciting applications for a 1 year postdoc fellowship (12
months) in experimental sociolinguistics/psycholinguistics. The
postdoctoral researcher will primarily collaborate on Phase 1 of the
ANR JCJC SOPHIA project (Social Persona and Human Interaction). This
project aims to integrate the social dimension of language into
psycholinguistic models, exploring how linguistic variants (subject
inversion, inclusive writing, liaison) construct social personae and
influence real-time language processing.
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for:
 - Designing psycholinguistic experiments, particularly focusing on
production and image association tasks for the first phase.
 - Analyzing data using descriptive and inferential methods (Bayesian
approach preferred).
 - Supervising interns to assist with data collection and result
annotation.
 - Participating in laboratory seminars and project workshops.
Required Skills:
The ideal candidate will have expertise in:
 - Design and analysis of sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic
experiments.
 - Statistical modeling (R, mixed-effects models, Bayesian
approaches).
 - Sociolinguistics and analysis of social representations.
 - Supervisory skills.
Fluency in French is not required but is considered an asset.
Work Environment:
The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by Céline Pozniak (PI,
Université Paris 8) and will collaborate with Heather Burnett (CNRS,
LLF) and Saveria Colonna (Université Paris 8, SFL). They will have a
shared workspace with project members and may be required to travel
for dissemination activities (conferences, community outreach, etc.)
in France and abroad. Travel expenses will be covered. This is a
full-time position with activities balanced across fieldwork, data
analysis/publication, and intern co-supervision. The position is based
at UMR 7023_SFL, located at 59 rue Pouchet, 75017 Paris. The SFL
laboratory is equipped with experimental tools (eye-tracker, data
collection software, and computational resources for modeling).
Salary:
Salary is based on the CNRS pay scale: from 3131,32€ to 4341,70€ gross
monthly according to experience.
Duration:
The contract is for 12 months, ideally starting on January 2026.
Application Deadline and Process:
Deadline: October 31 2025
Application materials (in French or English):
 - Cover letter.
 - Detailed CV.
