Special Issue of Studies in Second Language Acquisition, July 2027
Call for Proposals
Studies in Second Language Acquisition (SSLA) is now entertaining
proposals for the thematic issue of Volume 49:3, to be published in
July 2027. Thematic issues of SSLA focus on areas of current interest
and are an excellent venue to bring together in one issue numerous
approaches to a problem or methodology in the field of SLA. For
special issue examples, see previous special volumes of SSLA. For
examples of previous winning proposals, please click here.
A proposal should include (a) a rationale (up to two single-spaced
pages plus references) for the thematic issue and (b) tentative titles
and abstracts (250-300 words) from the authors of the manuscripts that
the editor intends or expects to include. Part (b) can also include a
list of possible topics and/or names of authors that may be invited to
contribute. Note that the articles in a special issue can belong to
any of the article types published in SSLA. These include: Research
article, Critical Commentary, Research Report, Replication Studies,
Methods Forum, Data Report, and State-of-the-Scholarship Review.
All manuscript and production deadlines are as follows:
December 31, 2025 - Proposals due by email to ssla.journal at gmail.com
January 31, 2026 - Final decision reached
May 22, 2026 - Submission of first-draft manuscripts to SSLA via
ScholarOne
January 22, 2027 - All final manuscripts due, submitted via ScholarOne
