We are pleased to invite people working on Persian language and
discourse to contribute chapters to the forthcoming edited volume,
Handbook of Persian Pragmatics, to be published by Springer Nature.
About the Handbook
The Handbook of Persian Pragmatics aims to provide a comprehensive and
up-to-date account of research on pragmatics in Persian, while also
highlighting the contribution of Persian data to broader theoretical,
methodological, and interdisciplinary debates in pragmatics and
linguistics. The volume welcomes theoretically informed, empirically
grounded, and methodologically diverse contributions addressing
Persian pragmatics from a broad range of perspectives. We encourage
work that brings Persian into dialogue with contemporary developments
in pragmatics and related fields. Given the comprehensive scope of the
handbook, we welcome contributions from across the full spectrum of
Persian pragmatics. The themes listed below are intended as
illustrative rather than exhaustive. Contributors are therefore
encouraged to propose topics that fall within the broader domain of
Persian pragmatics, including topics not explicitly listed here.

Persian in Broader Pragmatic Research
We particularly encourage contributions that use Persian data to
engage with broader theoretical questions in pragmatics. Comparative
and cross-linguistic studies are also welcome where Persian
constitutes a substantive component of the analysis. Studies comparing
Persian with languages such as English, Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, or
other languages are especially welcome when they contribute to our
understanding of pragmatic phenomena beyond a single language. We also
welcome contributions drawing on diverse varieties and contexts of
Persian, including contemporary and historical Persian, regional
varieties, diaspora and heritage Persian.
Who Should Submit?
We welcome high-quality contributions from the global community of
scholars working on Persian, as well as researchers whose work engages
with Persian from comparative, cross-linguistic, theoretical,
experimental, computational, sociocultural, or interdisciplinary
perspectives. We encourage submissions from early-career researchers
and established scholars alike, and welcome theoretically diverse
approaches and innovative methodologies.
Submission Information
Prospective contributors are invited to submit an abstract of
approximately 400–500 words clearly outlining:
the topic and research question(s);
the theoretical framework and methodological approach;
the Persian data or empirical material to be examined; and
the chapter’s contribution to Persian pragmatics and the wider field.
Please submit the abstract together with the following information in
a single .docx file:
proposed chapter title;
author name(s);
affiliation(s); and
contact details.

no later than 30 September 2026.
