Following the success of the annual autumn online workshops, TCLR
Group is organizing an online workshop on the seminal role of
Prepositions in Thought and Language.
This online workshop aims to explore and extend the discussion
regarding the pervasive role of prepositions in thought and language.
More specifically, prepositions will be treated within the framework
of Cognitive Linguistics, in terms of subjectivity and
subjectification, reference and vantage point, figurativity,
embodiment, cognitive grammar, construction grammar, schematicity,
among other issues. Prepositions play a central role in a variety of
communicative situations, taking into consideration all levels of
language and discourse in any given language.
In particular, contributions are welcome on topics including, but not
limited to:
 - Prepositions in thought and language in synchrony or diachrony
 - Prepositions in figurative thought and language; how prepositions
contribute to producing or enhancing figurative mechanisms such as
metaphor, metonymy, irony, … (in love, under pressure)
 - Prepositions in abstract domains or frames of experience (motion,
time, cause, reason, or e-motions, …)
 - Prepositions in cliché expressions (par excellence, per se, de
facto, κατ’ εξοχήν, κατά περίπτωση)
 - Complex, compound, clusters of prepositions (within, without, upon,
dedans, from under, down under, με δίχως, overcook, underperform,
αποδυναμώνω)
 - Prepositions and narrative space; how an author, a narrator, or a
character can use prepositions in language and discourse, in order to
create a certain perspective (proximal or distant) or to denote a
shift in perspective
 - Prepositions that create and sustain confining or open spaces
concerning e.g. migrants, minorities, communities, …
Working language of the workshop: English
Participation and attendance are free of charge.
Presentations will be no longer than 15 min. Abstracts (no more than
300 words, excluding bibliography) should be submitted in PDF format.

Notifications of acceptance will be announced by the end of July 2026.
