Ready to showcase your research skills? The first annual Oxford Test
of English Learner Corpora (OTELC) Research Competition is here – a
unique opportunity for master’s students in linguistics, corpus
linguistics, or language assessment to conduct original research using
authentic test taker responses.
Why participate?
- Free access to the Oxford Test of English Learner Corpora
- A chance to base your coursework on real learner data
- The winning entry will receive a 13-inch iPad Air
- The winner’s research will be published on the Oxford English
Assessment Research page
How to apply:
Submit a research proposal using the official application form. Your
proposal should outline your aims, research questions, and how you
plan to use the OTELC.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be:
- Enrolled in a master’s programme
- Taking a course in linguistics, corpus linguistics, or language
assessment
- Have at least one semester remaining
We welcome proposals that explore the intersection of corpus
linguistics and second language assessment, along with work that
develops pedagogical materials or other applications of research-based
findings.
Deadline to apply: Sunday, 31 May 2026
