in Neurolinguistics that are indicative of a substantial international

Description:
Tasks and Expectations:
The Faculty is seeking applications from leaders in the field who will
make a significant contribution to shaping interdisciplinary
linguistics with a strong focus on research and cooperation in
conjunction with other linguistic disciplines at JGU. The successful
candidate will represent the field of General Linguistics with a focus
on Neurolinguistics in its full breadth in research and teaching and
will collaborate closely with the professorship in General and
Comparative Linguistics with a focus on Typology. A well-equipped
laboratory with EEG and eye-tracking facilities is available.
Cooperation with other linguistic disciplines at JGU is expected.
Ideally, the candidate is willing to engage in interdisciplinary
collaboration, particularly beyond faculty boundaries.
Expectations
in research:
- Studies on language processing
- Contributions to linguistic theory formation through
neuroscientific approaches
- Application and further development of neurophysiological and/or
anatomical methods (e.g. EEG, fMRI, fNIRS)
- Application of modern statistical methods
in teaching and supervision:
- Teaching on and developing didactically sound BA and MA programs
with linguistic content, especially in programs in General and
Comparative Linguistics with a neurolinguistic focus
- Teaching subject-specific competencies in higher education
- Supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers
- Leading the development of an attractive curriculum in
Neurolinguistics and Cognitive Linguistics, including neighboring
disciplines and current developments such as Data Science
- Continuous commitment to the further development of teaching
formats and study programs, also beyond the boundaries of one’s own
subject area, including teachertraining programs
with regard to collaborative research and external research funding:
- Development of and participation in innovative research and
teaching networks at JGU and within the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU)
- Acquisition of external grant income for linguistic (collaborative)
research
Further expectations:
- A cooperative and team-oriented working style and strong
interpersonal skills
- Willingness to take on responsibilities in accordance with JGU’s
leadership principles
- Active involvement in academic self-governance
- German-language proficiency or attainment of an adequate
proficiency within three years of appointment
Requirements:
Applicants must fulfil the general legal requirements for public
service appointments pursuant to §49 of the Higher Education Act of
Rhineland-Palatinate. In addition, the following must be demonstrated:
Academic qualifications:
- An excellent doctorate and outstanding internationally recognized
academic achievements beyond the doctorate in Neurolinguistics that
are indicative of a substantial international reputation
- Successful acquisition of external grant income
- A strong international research profile and reputation
- Desirable: competence in crosslinguistic research
Teaching:
- Proof of excellent teaching skills and university teaching
experience across an appropriate range of subjects
- Ability and willingness to teach in English (and, in the medium
term, in German)
The State of Rhineland-Palatinate and JGU pursue a concept of
intensive student support and therefore expect a high on-campus
presence of teaching staff as well as a general willingness to
actively develop one’s competencies.
What we have to offer:
JGU provides a comprehensive range of linguistic expertise distributed
across several faculties. The Faculty of Philosophy and Philology,
with around 5,000 students, covers numerous philologies. Opportunities
for collaboration exist with the Faculties of Translation Studies,
Linguistics and Cultural Studies, History and Cultural Studies, and
Social Sciences, Media and Sport (e.g. Sociology or Psychology).
Further collaboration with the Mainz University Medical Center may
also be possible.
