Description:
We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual to set up the
new Experimental Service Hub at the Data Center for the Humanities
(DCH; https://dch.phil-fak.uni-koeln.de/) in close cooperation with
the linguistic laboratories at the Faculty of Arts at the University
of Cologne (XlinC Lab:
https://xlinc.phil-fak.uni-koeln.de/en/xlinc-lab, and Phonetics:
https://ifl.phil-fak.uni-koeln.de/en/phonetics/lab/experimental-phonetics-lab).
In the future the hub will offer the entire spectrum of services and
support for experimental linguistic research carried out at the
Faculty of Arts: from experiment design, experiment programming, data
processing and analysis to the archiving of projects and data.
Your tasks include:
- Development and testing of sustainable workflows and pipelines for
experiment design and experiment programming for research involving
the recording of audio, video, eye movements, EEG, reaction times,
a.o.; on-site support of running research projects in this area
- Development and testing of service procedures for data treatment
and analysis (including inferential statistics), data management and
archiving for a broad range of data types (e.g., reaction times,
phonetic production, multimodal data, EEG data) including the
synchronization of different data types; on-site support of running
research projects in this area
- Creation of a participant data base for linguistic research at the
DCH
- Creation and supervision of the web portal of the Experimental
Service Hub as part of the web portal of the DCH
- Provision of training courses/workshops on experimental methods and
statistics as part of the services of the DCH
Your profile:
- M.A. / M.Sc. degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g.,
linguistics, computational linguistics, psychology, cognitive science,
computer science, data science or similar)
- Proven programming experience, e.g. with Python, R, MATLAB
- Experience with / interest in experimental linguistic research
- Proven knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics
- Willingness to constantly expand competence portfolio regarding
research paradigms and data analysis/management
- Fluent in German and English
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary work
- Very good communicative skills
- Team player
The position is a full-time position (39.83 hours per week) starting 1
April 2026 or soon thereafter with a contract duration of 6 years,
which may be turned into a permanent position afterwards, subject to
financial conditions. Salary is on the E13 TV-L German pay scale.
