Focus: Historical Linguistics and Generative Theory
Description:
The ETHL Summer School will bring together research in historical
syntax, phonology, and morphology to holistically address the relation
of all modules of grammar to diachronic change. Our curriculum
provides a crash-course into the what and why of theoretical
historical linguistics providing a comprehensive overview of this
emerging discipline from both the theoretical and historical
perspectives. With classes led by:
- Theresa Biberauer (University of Cambridge)
- Anne Brietbarth (Ghent University)
- Andrea Calabrese (University of Connecticut)
- Mark Hale (Concordia University)
- Patrick Honeybone (University of Edinburgh)
- Benjamin Molineaux (University of Edinburgh)
- Ruth Kramer (Georgetown University)
As ETHL’s classes serve to bridge the gap between Historical and
Theoretical Linguistics we expect attendees to come with either a
foundation in generative linguistic theory or a good knowledge of
Historical Linguistics.
