Linguistic justice is an increasingly important and relevant theme in
public and academic debate, shaped by social and technological
transformations, imposing hegemonic cultural visions and affecting
speakers’ rights. Several issues emerge in various domains, such as
the global dominance of English in research, the spread of
English-Medium Instruction in tertiary education, and Artificial
Intelligence algorithms, which tend to reproduce Western values and
perspectives, thereby reducing and at times obscuring local knowledge
and non-Anglophone cultures.
The next AItLA 2027 congress focuses on linguistic justice, promotes a
critical perspective on these issues and aims to analyze dysfunctional
practices in relation to language, society, and technology, by
examining both traditional approaches and new paradigms.
In particular, the conference aims to promote a discussion across four
thematic areas:
(i) language and education policies;
(ii) translation, interpreting, and mediation in crisis contexts;
(iii) critical analysis of grammatical categories and public
discourse;
(iv) language and the use of technologies.
