We are delighted to invite submissions for the next edition of the
Laughter Workshop, which will take place at Saarland University
(Germany) on 2–3 April 2027.
We welcome extended abstracts (2 pages of text + 1 page for references
and figures) reporting completed studies and/or substantial
work-in-progress related to laughter and other non-verbal
vocalisations in both spoken and signed languages.
Research themes include (but are not limited to):
- Articulation, acoustics and perception
- Gesture, sign, facial expressions and other bodily behaviour
- Interaction and pragmatics
- Affective and evaluative meanings
- Social perception and organisation
- Disfluency
- Technology applications
Previous editions have featured work in Conversation Analysis,
Discourse Analysis, Pragmatics, Psycholinguistics, Phonetics, Gesture
Studies, Computer Science, Human-Robot and Human-Machine Interaction,
Forensic Speech Science, Psychology, Sociolinguistics, L2 Learning,
and Health and Clinical Applications.
Important Dates:
- Call for papers opens: 1 September 2026
- Submission deadline: 23 November 2026
- Notification of outcomes: 18 January 2027
