Subject: Language & Cognition - Call for General Editors - Apply by 30 November
Language & Cognition is seeking self-nominations for General Editors.
About the role:
The role entails overseeing the review process for manuscripts
assigned to you, conferring with the Editors-in-Chief and the other
General Editors about new initiatives for the journal, and where
possible, promoting the journal within your networks and/or on social
media.
Cambridge University Press provides a small honorarium for this
service. The term of a General Editor is usually set to 3 years (with
the opportunity to renew for a further term).
We are seeking to appoint new General Editors to begin their term on 1
January 2027.
About the journal:
Language & Cognition is an open access journal publishing high-quality
empirical research focusing on the interface between language and
cognition. It is open to research from the full range of subject
disciplines, theoretical backgrounds, and analytical frameworks that
populate linguistics and the cognitive sciences. We aim to cover a
wide range of interdisciplinary research focused on theoretical issues
surrounding the language system. We specialise in empirical work that
is quantitative in nature, especially work that uses experimental or
corpus methods. In addition to the traditional areas of cognitive
linguistics (e.g., construction grammar, metaphor theory, linguistic
relativity, sensorimotor simulation), we especially welcome research
which considers theoretical linguistic questions within a broader
cognitive context.
We are proud of our journal having been at the forefront of a number
of open science developments in our field, including Registered
Reports and an open data policy. Also, we are happy that all papers
accepted for publication in Language & Cognition since June 2023 are
open access.
How to self-nominate:
We accept self-nominations from candidates with expertise in all areas
of research that investigate the intersection between language and
cognition in some form or another.
Please see the journal's Aims and Scope (link below) for more
information on the type of research we specialise in.

We require a PhD and familiarity with the journal publication process
from the author's perspective, but we are explicitly open to
first-time Editors with no previous experience of serving as Editor.
We are keen on increasing the diversity of identities represented by
our team of General Editors, as well as the diversity of research
topics and language specialisations.
If you conduct research in an area related to the journal and would be
interested in serving as a General Editor as part of our team, please
complete the brief form (link below) before 30 November 2026.
