The Center for Advancing Linguistic Science at Rice University invites
you to The African and African American Linguistic Summit, April 8–10,
2027. The call for presentations is attached.
We welcome submissions addressing African and African American
languages, linguistic research, and related issues. Preference will be
given to poster presentations to broaden opportunities for sharing
research and exchanging ideas. We especially encourage students to
submit poster proposals.
Abstracts are now being accepted through EasyAbs:
https://easyabs.linguistlist.org/conference/TAALS/
Registration and hotel information will be available soon. Please
direct conference correspondence to calsocial at rice.edu.
The summit’s theme, Celebrating Sisterhood, will frame our gathering,
which will conclude with the presentation of Lifetime Achievement
Awards to Professors John Rickford, Geneva Smitherman, and Walt
Wolfram.
We hope you will join us for this opportunity to share scholarship,
honor distinguished colleagues, and engage in open discussion of
language, race, and equity—issues of particular importance amid
growing constraints on academic inquiry and public discourse.
