Building on iMean’s longstanding focus on meaning in social
interaction, iMean8 turns its attention to Language and Care, bringing
together researchers interested in the many ways in which language and
interaction shape, and are shaped, by: systems, contexts, languages
and ideologies of care.
The conference takes a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of
care and caring, encompassing primary and secondary healthcare,
community and social care, emergency and critical response, as well as
mental and social wellbeing.
In keeping with the iMean tradition, we welcome a wide range of
theoretical and methodological perspectives, including
discourse-based, ethnographic, arts-based and experimental approaches,
and encourage conversations across disciplinary and professional
boundaries.
Research excellence remains at the heart of iMean, alongside a strong
commitment to the application of research to policy, professional
practice and training.
