The 2027 Annual Conference of the Chinese Language Teachers
Association - USA (CLTA-USA) will be held in conjunction with the 39th
North American Conference on Chinese Linguistics (NACCL-39) at the
University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa from May 21 to May 23. The joint
conference aims to provide a platform for Chinese language teachers,
scholars, linguists, practitioners, and graduate students to share
cutting-edge research findings in Chinese language teaching/learning
and Chinese linguistics (i.e., phonetics and phonology, syntax,
semantics, language acquisition, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics,
neurolinguistics, and computational linguistics), as well as to
exchange teaching experience in Chinese language, culture, and
linguistics. In addition, the conference committee will organize a
range of workshops, colloquia, forums, and networking events
throughout the joint conference. We sincerely invite colleagues from
around the world to participate in the 2027 CLTA-NACCL Joint
Conference, where we can exchange experiences, share insights, and
engage in meaningful and productive discussions.

Proposal Submission Policies:
 - Submissions are welcome from both CLTA members and non-members, and
from all around the world. Graduate students are also welcome to
submit. Note that CLTA members and non-members will pay different
registration fees.
 - Proposals, written in either English or Chinese, are acceptable.
 - Submissions should fall into one of the three categories and be
clearly labeled (i.e., individual papers, panels, roundtable
discussions; see below for more detailed descriptions).
 - Each individual can submit only ONE proposal as a single or first
author, across all three proposal types. The same individual may be
listed as a co-author in a second proposal, appearing in a maximum of
two proposals.
 - If one proposal has multiple authors/presenters, information of all
authors/presenters should be included during the proposal submission.
Proposal Types:
2027 CLTA-NACCL joint conference accepts three types of proposals:
individual papers, panels, and roundtable discussions. Please select
the appropriate category when submitting your proposal online.
Additional requirements for proposal submission are as follows:
1.      Individual Papers. This category is for proposals to present
empirical and theoretical research findings or innovative teaching
practices. Each paper is allotted 10 minutes for presentation. The
proposal should include (1) an abstract that does not exceed 300
English words or 450 Chinese characters, and (2) a summary that does
not exceed 50 English words or 75 Chinese characters. At the
conference, individual papers that share a related topic will be
grouped into sessions. Each session has three or four presentations
and then one 5-minute Q&A.
2.      Panels. This category is for a 50-minute panel comprising
three or four presentations on a common theme. The presentations can
be related to empirical studies or explore issues on theory and
practice. Each panel must have a lead presenter responsible for
submitting the panel proposal. The proposal must include (1) an
overarching title for the panel and titles of individual
presentations, (2) an abstract that does not exceed 500 English words
or 750 Chinese characters, and (3) a summary that does not exceed 80
English words or 120 Chinese characters.
3.      Roundtable Discussions. Roundtable discussions provide
opportunities for informal and in-depth discussions between presenters
and attendees on a specific topic. They are particularly well suited
for research-in-progress or teaching projects that seek collaborators
or feedback. The proposal should include (1) an abstract that does not
exceed 250 English words or 300 Chinese characters (note the abstract
shall specify what the presenter seeks from the audience), and (2) a
summary that does not exceed 50 English words or 75 Chinese
characters.
Each roundtable session is scheduled for 50 minutes, during which
three presenters present or demonstrate their work consecutively for
10 minutes each around a table. The remaining 20 minutes are used for
the presenters and the attendees to engage in a group discussion.
Proposal Review and Notification of Results:
 - Each proposal will be reviewed anonymously by several invited
experts/peer reviewers.
 - Notification of proposal acceptance/rejection will be sent out via
e-mail by the end of November, 2026. Please make sure your email
address is correct during the proposal submission, and that each of
your co-presenters register on the Submission Website so they can
receive emails from the conference committee.
Registration Upon Acceptance Policies:
 - If your proposal is accepted, you will be asked to register for the
conference to confirm your acceptance into the program. Failure to
register will result in the proposal acceptance being rescinded.
Non-CLTA members are welcome to become CLTA members in order to pay
the lower registration fee.
 - For each accepted multi-authored presentation, all authors must
register. Failure to register will result in the proposal acceptance
being rescinded.
