Job: Research Assistant in Machine Translation
Sony U.S. Research Labs, San Jose
Sony has openings for temporary, part-time research assistants or
student summer interns for a research project on spoken language
translation. We are looking for systematic, thorough, creative,
results-oriented individuals who are able to work well as part of an
international team.
Job duties: Participate in a research project on spoken language
translation between English and Japanese. Create, maintain, refine,
and extend Japanese and English linguistic databases. Perform
linguistic analysis, investigations, and evaluation, and document
results in written form. Assist project members on related tasks.
Job requirements: Native-level fluency in Japanese. Ability to
communicate and work effectively in English. Excellent logical
analysis skills. Ability to work in a thorough, systematic, and
accurate manner. Some computer skills. Educational or job experience
in a relevant field, such as computational linguistics, linguistics,
or computer science.
Qualifications that would be a plus:
Experience in machine translation or natural language processing,
especially involving Japanese. Ability to program in Perl, or
C. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant
field.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN MULTI-LANGUAGE SPEECH SYNTHESIS BY RULE
Eloquent Technology, Inc. (Ithaca, New York) anticipates having several
positions available in multi-language text-to-speech synthesis. We are
looking for candidates at all levels of experience, with background in one
or more of the following areas:
- formant synthesis
- acoustic phonetics
- text processing/natural language processing
- prosody
Background in computer programming and/or expertise in one of the following

Your responsibility will include research into
English & Chinese parsing and text understanding system using
corpus-based approach, finite state transducer, and etc.
Position 2
You will be part of the team that will design and implementation
of English & Chinese parsing and text understanding system.
Requirements:
Master/PhD Degree in Computer Science, preferably in NLP
related area;
Experience in Chinese & English NLP, especially parsing and
text understanding;
Good C/C++ programming skill;
Good communication skill and initiative.
