Faisant suite à CIFT'02, organisé à Hammamet en octobre 2002, CIFT'04,
Colloque international sur la Fouille de Textes, se déroulera du 22 au
24 juin 2004 à La Rochelle, dans le cadre de la Semaine du Document
Numérique (du 21 au 25 juin) (SDN'O4).

Cette manifestation (SDN'04), réunira une vingtaine d'ateliers et de
manifestations scientifiques (dont une journée de l'ATALA et une du
chapitre français de l'ISKO). Cette semaine se place sous l'égide du
RTP Doc "document et contenu : création, indexation, navigation"
(http://rtp-doc.enssib.fr).

Les thématiques abordées par la SDN sont donc liées à la production et
à la mise à disposition de documents électroniques. La plupart des
manifestations positionnent cette année l'exploitation des documents
et l'accès au contenu au coeur de leur problématique, indépendamment
du fait qu'elles traitent du texte, de l'image, du son, ou de la vidéo
: la SDN est en effet conçue pour que puissent être réunies en un même
lieu des communautés ayant des approches différentes du document et du
texte et pour que les participants puissent profiter de cette
diversité. CIFT, conférence déjà associée en 2002 à CIDE (Conférence
Internationale sur le Document Electronique) et CIFED (Colloque
International Francophone sur l'Ecrit et le Document), est tout
naturellement moteur dans cette action.

CIFT s'appuie sur une communauté émergeante autour de l'application
conjointe des techniques d'apprentissage automatique, d'acquisition et
de représentation des connaissances et du traitement automatique des
langues. En témoignent des journées Fouille de Texte et A3CTE telles
que "apprentissage et texte" ou la "Journée acquisition, apprentissage
et exploitation de connaissances sémantiques pour l'accès au contenu
textuel" des plate-formes de l'AFIA 2001 et 2003, les workshops "Text
Mining", "Ontology learning", et "Semantic Web" successifs, les
conférences CoNLL, LREC et EGC.

Se positionnant au coeur de la SDN, CIFT souhaite offrir une plage de
rencontre autour de la mise en oeuvre de ces méthodes sur des bases de
documents textuels ou plus généralement audio-visuels. Ainsi, un
intérêt particulier sera porté aux travaux relatant des
expérimentations concrètes et conséquentes sur des applications
opérationnelles de la fouille de texte, sur l'intégration d'outils de
fouille de texte dans des chaînes de production ou de traitement de
l'information électronique comme sur la présentation de solutions
logicielles (y compris des outils d'aide à la validation
d'apprentissage, d'aide à la visualisation de résultats, etc).

Les articles proposés pourront porter sur des aspects théoriques,
méthodologiques ou pratiques de la fouille de texte. De façon non
limitative, les contributions porteront sur :

* les modèles et méthodologies de la fouille de texte issues :
- du traitement statistique des données
- de la fouille de données,
- du traitement automatique du langage naturel,
- de l'extraction des connaissances,
- de l'intelligence artificielle,
- de l'approche multilingue,
- de l'apprentissage numérique ou symbolique,
- de la classification automatique,
- de la recherche de motifs,
- du monde XML (RDF, etc.),
- des ontologies,
- etc.

* les domaines (mono/multiligues):
- recherche d'information,
- extraction d'information,
- systèmes de question-réponse
- catégorisation, routage, filtrage
- résumé automatique,
- web sémantique,
- mémoire d'entreprise,
- synthèse d'information,
- aide à la rédaction,
- aide à la décision,
- etc

After CIFT'02, organised in Hammamet in October 2002, CIFT'04,
International Conference on Text Mining, will be held in La Rochelle
(France), from 22nd to 24th June 2004.  This meeting will take place
during the "digital document week" (SDN'04, Semaine du Document
Numérique; 21-25 June), which brings together around 20 workshops and
scientific conferences (e.g. ATALA and ISKO-France). This scientific
week is organised by RTP-Doc (http://rtp-doc.enssib.fr) This year's
themes for the conference are therefore linked to production and
diffusion of electronic documents. Most conferences will focus on
information exploitation and intelligent access to contents, be they
text, image, sound or video. SDN aims at bringing together various
communities who all have a different approach to documents and textual
contents, in order to allow participants to benefit from this
diversity. The CIFT conference which was in 2002 already associated to
CIDE (Conférence Internationale sur le Document Electronique) and
CIFED (Colloque International Francophone sur l'Ecrit et le Document)
is therefore a natural key leader in this project.  CIFT stems from
the common preoccupation of an emerging community of researchers
seeking the concerted use of techniques of Information Science,
Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Linguistics, Terminology, Natural
Language Processing, Machine Learning, Knowledge Acquisition, Ontology
Learning, Text Mining and Semantic Web. They have already organised
several conferences and workshops such as AFIA, LREC, EGC and CoNLL.
Within the SDN, CIFT wants to be a forum for discussions around the
implementation of such methods on bases of textual or more generally
audio-visual documents.  Consequently, evaluators will especially
appreciate papers on detailed and large-scale experimentation
involving Text Mining solutions or the integration of text mining
software in global document engineering systems, or papers on the
presentation of software solutions (including help tools regarding
learning validation, results browsing, etc).  Submitted papers may
deal with theoretical, methodological or practical aspects of Text
Mining. The following list of topics is intended as suggestive rather
