Title: Automatic speech recognition and collaborative annotation for
improving accessibility on video sharing websites by the visually and
hearing impaired.

Description:
Eurecom’s Multimedia Communications Department invites applications
for a full-time post-doctoral researcher to work on the ACAV
(Annotation Collaborative pour l'Accessibilité Vidéo) project funded
as part of the "Web Innovant" call. The project aims to improve the
accessibility of video on popular content sharing websites by the
visually and hearing impaired. The first part of the project involves
the development of an automatic speech recognition system (preferably
using freely available, open-source software), to transcribe web-based
video data. The second part of the work entails the design and
implementation of a system to improve the accessibility of the content
to the visually and hearing impaired, based on semantic web and
collaborative annotations technologies. The position requires
significant experience in speech recognition research. Training on
semantic web technologies and ontology modelling will be provided. The
project consortium is composed of Dailymotion, LIRIS - University of
Lyon 1 and EURECOM.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will have been awarded a PhD degree, involving
automatic speech recognition (preferably large vocabulary, continuous
speech), prior to their joining Eurecom. Expertise in enviromental
robustness, speaker adaptation and/or speaker diarization, i.e. speaker
atributed speech-to-text, is a bonus, as is any experience relevant to
ontology modelling and semantic web languages. You will have a strong
research track record with significant publications at leading
international conferences and/or in journals. You will be highly
motivated to undertake challenging, applied research and have good
English language speaking and writing skills. French language skills are
a bonus.

Le département Communications Multimédia d’EURECOM recherche un
post-doctorant pour 18 à 24 mois pour travailler sur le projet ACAV
(Annotation Collaborative pour l’Accessibilité Vidéo), récemment
financé dans le cadre de l’appel Web Innovant . Le projet a comme
ambition d’améliorer l’accessibilité des vidéos sur les plates-formes
de partage en ligne pour les utilisateurs dont les fonctions visuelles
ou auditives sont altérées. Dans un premier temps, le/la candidat(e)
développera un système de reconnaissance de la parole pour des vidéos
courtes pour des scénarios bien identifiés (de préférence en utilisant
des librairies open source). Dans un second temps, le/la candidat(e)
participera à la conception et à l’implémentation d’outils
collaboratifs permettant de corriger les résultats de la transcription
et d’annoter sémantiquement les contenus vidéo. Ce poste requiert une
bonne connaissance de la recherche en traitement automatique de la
parole. Le consortium est composé de Dailymotion, du laboratoire LIRIS
de l’Université Lyon 1 et d’EURECOM.

Pré requis :
Le/la candidat(e) devra être titulaire d’une thèse qui aborde les
domaines du traitement automatique de la parole, et de préférence,
impliquant des vocabulaires de très grande taille et le traitement de
la parole continue. Des compétences en détection et reconnaissance de
locuteur et diarisation, en modélisation d’ontologies et une
connaissance des langages et technologies du web sémantique sont un
plus.
