*Postdoctoral position in machine translation*

Idiap Research Institute, Martigny, Switzerland


Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in
machine translation within the COMTIS project funded by the Swiss NSF
(http://www.idiap.ch/comtis).  COMTIS aims at improving the accuracy
of MT by modeling dependencies across sentences and integrating these
models into statistical MT systems.

The postdoc will measure the improvement in MT using these techniques,
defining new evaluation metrics and resources, and coordinating their
application to several systems.  The postdoc will develop metrics,
test suites and automatic procedures, and will integrate them in the
FEMTI framework.  Contributions to system integration, preparation and
fine-tuning for evaluation are also expected.

*Requirements*

Candidates should hold a PhD in natural language processing, MT or
speech technology, and demonstrate previous experience with language
resources, evaluation, and quantitative methods.  Previous
participation in the definition of test campaigns for NLP or MT
systems is a plus.  Good communication skills in English, as well as
some knowledge of French, German or Italian (for MT evaluation) are
required.

*Duration and starting date*

The position is offered for one year, with a possible renewal for a
second year based on satisfactory results.  The appointment will start
preferably on March 1st, 2011, or no later than September 1st, 2011.
