The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is a Directorate-General of the
European Commission. It has seven scientific institutes, located
at five different sites in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the
Netherlands and Spain, with a wide range of laboratories and
unique research facilities.

The JRC provides customer-driven scientific and technical support for
the conception, development, implementation and monitoring of EU
policies. It serves the common interest of the Member States, and aims
to deliver robust and fit-for-purpose scientific and technical support
to EU policy makers.

The JRC is currently seeking researchers with experience in:

The competition notice was published on 30 September 2010. The closing
date for registration is 4 November 2010.

Requirements for application

The European Commission will recruit research administrators (AD) at levels AD6 and AD7.

1. Education

1.1 For AD6. A level of education which corresponds to completed
    university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma.

1.2 For AD7. A level of education which corresponds to completed
    university studies attested by a diploma, when the normal period
    of university education is four years or more, or

1.3 A level of education which corresponds to completed university
    studies attested by a diploma when the normal period of university
    education is at least three years and an appropriate profes-
    sional experience of at least one year in the chosen field.

2. Professional experience

For AD6. A professional experience gained since obtaining the first
    qualification required under 1.1 of at least three years is
    required in the chosen field. Doctoral studies can be counted as
    working experi- ence up to a maximum of three years.

For AD7. A professional experience gained since obtaining the first
    qualification required under 1.2 and 1.3 of at least six years is
    required in the chosen field. Those six years of professional
    experience must be additional to the one specific year requested
    under 1.3. Doctoral studies can be counted as working experience
    up to a maximum of three years.

3. Language requirements

It is necessary to have a main language (a thorough knowledge of one
of the official languages of the European Union) and a second language
(a satisfactory knowledge of English, French or German).  The second
language must be different from the main language.

How to apply

The European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) is responsible for
selecting staff for the European Commission. You should carefully read
the competition notice by consulting the

EPSO website:

You will then be prompted to create an EPSO account, complete an
on-line application form and submit it to EPSO prior to the specified
deadline for registration – the 4th of November 2010.

Assessment procedure

Step 1. Examination of on-line applications

Candidates will be selected on the basis of the information given in
their on-line application forms.

The selection board will choose candidates who satisfy the eligibility
conditions and who possess the qualifications (especially diplomas,
publications in peer reviewed journals and academic and/or
professional experience) that are most relevant in terms of quality
and level to the nature of the duties described in the competition
notice.

Step 2. Day at the Assessment Centre

If you are admitted to the competition, you will be invited to an
Assessment Centre in Brussels.

Your day at the assessment centre will include the following:

    - Verbal, numerical, and abstract reasoning tests
    - A written case study in the chosen field
    - A group exercise
    - A structured interview

For AD7: there will be an additional written test

Step 3. Creation of the Reserve lists

Over 270 candidates will be put on reserve lists from which the JRC
can recruit.
