Según Corominas:

FLAMENCO, del neerl. flaming 'natural de Flandes', En España se aplicó a la
persona de tez encarnada, por tomarse el flamenco como prototipo de los
pueblos nórdicos (catalán, Siglo XIII). De aquí la aplicación a la palmípeda
Pnoenicopterus roseus, hacia 1330 (flamingo), por el color de la misma; de
aquí probablement también la aplicación a las mujeres de tez sonrosada, de
donde luego 'gallardo, de buena presencia" y después" de aspecto provocante,
de aire agitanado', 1870, finalmente concretado en el canto agitanado o
andaluz.

FLAMENCO, from Dutch flaming 'native of Flanders', In Spain it referred to
persons of ruddy complexion, considering the Flemish as prototypical of the
nordic countries (first used in Catalonian 13th Cent.). From this it was
applied to the web-footed flamingo, Phoenicopterus rosea, also because of
its color; then it was probably applied to women with a blushing complexion.

By 1870 the meaning was fixed as Gypsy or Andalucian song.

This is incorrect.  I was not the author of that piece.
