It's hard tae see onything. Tae me the differ atween the vouels in
"guidnicht" [gId'n3xt] is claer (the /I/ is mair closed nor the /3/). But
syne the'r muinlicht [m3nl3xt].

A wad suggest that Aitken's vouel's juist gittin mair uizual in ma dialect.
"Guid" is whiles soondit [g3d], whan it's bein says enthusiastic: "That's no
half guid!" A dinna ken what the signeeficance o that micht be, but aiblins
it's evidence that /3/ could tak ower fae aa the /I/'s in time?
