Ik herriner mij nu ook weer stoven gezien te hebben waar meerdere mensen
tegelijk hun voeten op konden verwarmen. Als je moeder denkt dat dit haar
uitvinding is dan will ik haar dat plezier niet ontnemen. Zij dan echter
niet de enige uitvinder!

Ron,
I remember very well those things, which in Dutch were called a "juk", and
in Frisian a "jok". They were still used in 'my time' by some people to
carry (small) cans or pails of milk, one on each side.

Descended from common root of the Sanskrit <yuj>, "to join together, to
yoke or harness" L jugam HG Joch.  Sanskrit "Yoga" is a derivation.
