Subject: Influences on Scottish Accent/Dielect
Well I believe there has been a number of influences going back to
the first contact of the Scots (Irish settlers) who had moved to what is
now called Scotland. Mixing with non-Celtic Picts and other Celts.
Later mixing with English as well as Nordic lingo from invaders and
settlers, people do forget that the Norse not only took the Danelaw, but
sort of had much the same influences in Scotland and arrangement as
well.
Later mentioned French as well as German influences, some locally, and
some cause of many Scots serving on the continent.
Now the influences seem to be many of the same that are affecting
British English. Such as American English, colonial English as well as
other former empire members who are now moving to Scotland.
I know I missed some..
Mike
