Marco Evenhuis heeft, op verzoek van Ron Rahn, onnline resources verschaft
voor
de Zeêuwse taal op www.zeeuws.cjb.net.  Zijn Website is niet alleen heel
interessant maar ook echt waardevol. Het verschaft een weelde aan literaire

gegevens.  Ik heb all enige nummers van de 10 uitgaven van het blad Noe
doorgelezen, en dat met veel genot.  In nummer 7 is er zelfs sprake van
Zeêuws
overzee en hoe de taal elders werd ingeburgerd.  Ik kan nauwelijks wachten
om
ook de uittreksels uit de andere nummes te gaan lezen.

Ik observeer slecht twwe zwakke punten van minder belang: de teksten zijn
in
nogal klein karakter type geschreven en daarom moeilijk te lezen; en
sommige
koppelingen corresponderen niet aan de titels.  (De een of de ander zal men

kunnen wijzigen.)

Maar naast de literaire kant van het Zeêuws, is er ook de historische en
politieke kant, een feit dat al in de 16e eeuw onderstreept werd door de
dichter
Filips Marnix van St. Aldegonde (1538-1598), die in Zeeland woonde.  Dit
blijkt
wel uit de regen _d'Hollander end' de Zeeuw_ aan het einde van het eerste
couplet.  Dit is een van mijn lievelingsgedichten.

We weten tenslotte dat aan Marnix van St. Aldegonde wordt toegeschreven de
auteur te zijn van het Wilhelmus, het oudste volkslied ter wereld.

Zijn gedicht volgt na de Engelse tekst.

At Ron Rahn’s request, Marco Evenhuis provided online resources for
Zeelandic at
www.zeeuws.cjb.net.  His Web site contains not only a wealth of most
interesting
information of all kind but also worthwhile resources for anyone who can
read
Zeelandic.  Although I have browsed here and there I still have to return
to
read more of it.  There is so much and it is so challenging.  There are
beautiful excerpts taken from the 10 issues of the magazine Noe (Now).
Number 7
even includes the spreading of Zeelandic overseas, and how the language
implanted itself elsewhere in the world.  But there is much more.

Only  two minor weeknesses: the letter type is small and thus hard to
read.  And
the inner links do not always correspond to the titles.

Besides the literary viewpoint on Zeelancic, I read a poem—one of my
preferred
ones—by Filips Marnix van St. Aldegonde (1538-1598), who lived in Zeeland.
His
poem proves, as long ago as the 16th century, that politically and
historically,
Holland and Zeeland were seen as distinct.  Read the line _d'Hollander end'
de
Zeeuw_  near the end of the first strophe.

By the way, Marnix van St. Aldegonde is reputed as the author of the
National
Anthem of the Netherlands, the “Wilhelmus”, the oldest national hymn in the

world.  His poem follows now.

Marco, Lowlanders,

I've heard that West Flemish has a fair bit of Saxon influence, and
personally I've found more phonological similarities between WF and Low
Saxon than between Standard Dutch and LS.  Since Zeelandic is on a sort of
continuum with WF, has anyone identified Saxonisms in those Friso-Frankish
varieties (provided that Saxon influx affected Zeeland as well)?
