In Ghana, where I worked for 11 years, the Dept of Agriculture's service to
local farmers was known as 'Agricultural Extension Services long before
America made its major inputs to the country's development. As Ag, like all
other government departments, originated in the British Colonial era I would
assume that 'extension' in this case was a British term.
