Hallo,
I've checked some sources at the university regarding "walrieder".
An Dictionnary for Old Frisian mentions walubera ---> Pilgrim, staff-bearer
but no simplex "wal".
In Grimms "Deutsches Wörterbuch" Walrieder is mentioned, too:

walrider wird entweder als 'totenreiter' (s. wal sp. 1063f.)
