Leve Leeglanners,
   Verledene Week kreeg' ik Wind vun 'n wisse Saak. Mien Süster Bärbel in
Noorddüütschland harr 't Radio höört un mi Bott daarvun geven. Nu was se sik
man bloots nich seker vunwegen d'n Nanamen, un ik müss töven ehr dat ik dat
mang Ju künnig maken kunn. Middewiel heff ik an Hein Kröger, den Vörsitter vun
de Freudenthal-Sellschup, schreven un 'n Fax vun em kregen un weet dat nu för
wiss.
   Ik kann nu künnig maken, dat de Winner vun d'n Freudenthal-Pries 2001 an 'n
Schrieversmann in de Nedderlannen gaiht! He kriggt d'n Pries för 'n Grupp vun
10 Gedichten ünner d'n Sammeltitel "Leven en Dood."  De Autor is Henk
Krosenbrink uut Corle/Winterswiek (Winterwijk). Dat is al 'n bekannten Naam in
de oosternen Nedderlannen un in wisse Kringen in Noorddüütschland. Ik glööv',
dat is dat eerste Maal, dat 'n Nedderlanner 'n Pries för
nedderdüütsche/neddersassische Litteratuur in Düütschland wunnen hett. Ik kann
gaarnich beschrieven, wat ik mi daarto högen do. As de mehrsten mang Ju al
weten doot, do ik mi för dat Tohoopkamen vun
Neddersassisch-/Nedderdüütsch-Sprekers över de Grenzen (un Seen) afrieten. Ik
bün blied' (un stolt as 'n Winner vun den Pries 1999), dat de
Freudenthal-Sellschup ook in düsse Saak vörangaiht. (Ik bün in 't verledene
Jahr in de Pries-Jury west, nich düt Jahr.)  Nu graleer ik Henk Krosenbrink in
d'n Naam vun all de Liddmaten vun Lowlands-L.
   Ik will bi "Nu is de Welt platt!"

Dear Lowlanders,
   Last week I got wind of a certain piece of news. My Sister Bärbel in
Northern Germany had heard it on the radio and alerted me to it. The problem
was that she was not sure about the last name of the person involved, and I
had to wait for confirmation before I could pass the news on to you. In the
meantime I wrote to Hein Kröger, the director of the Freudenthal Society, and
have received a faxed confirmation from him. So I am now sure.
   I am happy to announce that the winner of the Freudenthal Prize 2001 is a
writer in the Netherlands! He won the prize for a group of 10 poems under the
collective title "Leven en Dood" ("Life and Death"). The author is Henk
Krosenbrink of Corle/Winterwijk. This is a well-known name in the Eastern
Netherlands and in certain North German circles. I believe this is the first
time a person from the Netherlands has won a prize for Low Saxon (Low German)
literature in Germany. I can't even begin to describe how delighted I am about
this. As most of you already know, I am an avid advocate of Low Saxon (Low
German) unification across borders (and oceans). I am happy (as well as proud
as the 1999 winner of that prize) that the Freudenthal Society is taking the
lead in this regard also. (I served on the prize jury last year, not this
year.)  I would like to congratulate Henk Krozenbrink on behalf of all
Lowlands-L members.
   I intend to all a list of literature competitions to "Nu is de Welt platt!"
(http://www.geocities.com/sassisch/rhahn/low-saxon/plattewelt.htm). I would be
most grateful for any relevant information. (I know nothing of such prizes in
the Netherlands.)

Liebe Lowlanders,
   Letzte Woche bekam ich Wind von einer gewissen Sache. Meine Schwester
Bärbel in Norddeutschland hatte davon im Rundfunk gehört und mich
benachrichtigt. Allerdings war sie sich über den Nachnamen der gewissen Person
nicht sicher, und ich brauchte eine Bestätigung ehe ich die Sache weitergeben
konnte. Inzwischen habe ich an Heinrich Kröger, den Vorsitzenden der
Freudenthal-Gesellschaft, geschrieben und gerade ein Fax mit der Bestätigung
von ihm erhalten.
   Ich kann nun bekanntgeben, dass der Freudenthal-Preisträger 2001 ein
Schriftsteller in den Niederlanden ist! Er erhält den Preis für 10 Gedichte
unter dem Sammeltitel "Leven en Dood" ("Leben und Tod"). Es handelt sich um
Henk Krosenbrink aus Corle/Winterswijk, also um einen bekannten Namen in den
östlichen Niederlanden und in gewissen norddeutschen Kreisen. Ich glaube, dies
ist das erste Mal, dass ein Niederlander einen norddeutschen Preis für
niederdeutsche/niedersächsische Literatur gewonnen hat. Ich kann garnicht
beschreiben, wie sehr ich mich darüber freue. Wie die meisten von Euch bereits
wissen, setze ich mich für internationale Vereinigung von
niedersächsischen/niederdeutschen Sprechergemeinschaften ein. Ich bin froh
(und als Preisträger 1999 stolz), dass die Freudenthal-Gesellschaft auch in
dieser Hinsicht voranschreitet. (Ich war letztes Jahr Preis-Jury-Mitglied,
nicht dieses Jahr.)  Ich gratuliere Henk Krosenbrink im Namen aller
Lowlands-L-Mitglieder.
   Ich habe vor "Nu is de Welt platt!"

von Literaturpreisausschreiben hinzuzufügen. Ich wäre für relevante
Informationen sehr dankbar. (Von solchen Preisausschreiben in den Niederlanden
weiß ich garnichts.)
