Hello Margot !
In Eastern Friesland Low Saxon we know the word "pru:sten" (u: means the
long vowel u)with the meaning: to snort or to burst out laughing. In German
about somebody who is drunk often is said: "er ist blau". Because I don't
know where this saying comes from I can't decide whether there is really a
connection with the colour blue or it is the bowdlerizing of an old word
with different meaning.

Ik glööv', Holger hett recht.  Ja, up ("Hoog"-)Düütsch kann _blau_ 'besapen'
(ingelsch _drunk(en)_) bedüden, ook in 'n Barg neddersassische
(nedderdüütsche, plattdüütsche) Dialekten in Norddüütschland.  Wi köönt ook
"bickbeernblau" seggen.  ('n "Bickbeer" is 'n _blauwbes_ up Hollandsch, 'n
_blueberry_ up Ingelsch, _Vaccinium corymbosum_ up Latiensch.)

Wat för 'n Knoop is dat, _de blauwe Knoop_?

Kann 't nich ook wesen, dat in ole Tieden de Drachten vun seelandsche

dronken) as een schorte_ = "so blau (= besapen) as 'n Schört" = _as blue (=
drunk) as an apron_.
