Dear Ron:
To starve and to die is not so far away from each other.
In Dutch we say:
Ik sterf van de honger (E: I'm starving) 'sterf' obviously meaning
almost
dying of hunger.
We have also -versterven(E: mortify the flesh)
-versterving(E: mortification, mort being French for dead)
And yes:
starveling(E) is not the same as the Dutch word 'sterveling'(= a human
being that, like anyone else, once has to die)
