Hi Wim!
Waal is indeed somebody who speaks a strange, not understandable
language
and the name is given bij the people who didnt' understand them.
So you have' Wales' in the U.K. and you have' Walloons' in Belgium.You
had
also 'rode walen'. They were a group of people in Limburg who talked
bargoens (Koeterwaals), a not understandable kind of secret language.
Waalenstraat? Is this the same street as Walstreet? Then i suppose it
did
not come from 'Waal' but from 'wal'(a height of ground made for
defence),
which also comes from Dutch.
