The article Howard sent us is certainly fascinating.
Regarding the questions it raises (not about Scots)
about political languages vs. really distinct
languages (with examples of Albanian, "Walloon",
Dutch, "Serbo-Croatian"), I wonder about the whole
business of "getting minority/local (I don't know the
correct term) languages recognized" in Europe. Excuse
my ignorance, since I'm a continent away, but I wonder
to what extent the concern members of this list have
about local Lowlands languages is political? This
isn't a challenge, just a sincere question, especially
in light of the example in the article of
"Dutch-Flemish" (the only Lowlands Language besides
English that I know).
